These Giant Scaly Male ferns (Dryopteris affinis) were gathered from Clifford’s woods, one of the many woodlands that are being destroyed by the HS2 rail line.
 
This fern is a hardy specimen that thrives in damp woodland. If you spot it while you are exploring a woodland, it could be an indicator that you are standing in a special habitat.
